DVMUG Meetings

Zoom

We are doing virtual meetings using Zoom. We encourage you to connect with us on Tuesdays at 3 pm.

Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions that you may have on the DVMUG BBS. It is a great place for getting answers, especially in the specialized areas of the Gateway.

DVMUG members can check the weekly DVMUG News email or the DVMUG BBS for the Zoom meeting login.

DVMUG Zoom Classes

These classes will be included as part of membership in DVMUG. That makes the cost of membership an even better deal at only $40 per year. The cost of one of these classes via Zoom at the adult school is $25.

The classes will also be recorded and made available on YouTube only to DVMUG members. You can watch these classes on your Apple TV or Roku device on your big-screen TV any time you want.

Make your sad Mac, iPhone, or iPad happy again! At DVMUG’s legendary MacClinic, we can upgrade your Mac’s memory (you supply the memory; we can tell you where to get it). We can upgrade most Macs’ data storage by installing a new hard drive or solid-state drive. We can troubleshoot problems with malware, adware, and botched installations. We can help setup your iOS device, back it up to your Mac, and transfer your data to a new iOS device. Appointments for the MacClinic must be made by phone (for triage), then time slots will be assigned. Remember that the services you receive as part of your DVMUG membership beat the heck out of what you would pay elsewhere. Obviously, the DVMUG office rent never stops and donations are gratefully received.

We can only take three appointments for the Saturday clinic in keeping with good COVID-19 practices. It is required that you show proof of full vaccination with a booster to be allowed in the DVMUG office.

Apple’s iCloud service is highly useful, but it can also create headaches for the average user. In Take Control of iCloud, Ninth Edition, Joe Kissell explains how to avoid frustrations and make iCloud work for you across all your devices.

iCloud is a simple idea in theory—access to all your data on all your devices, via the cloud—that can become complicated when put into practice. Instead of wasting time fiddling with iCloud, when there are many other more important things to be done with the information it contains, learn how to minimize frustrations with Take Control of iCloud, Ninth Edition!

Whether you want a quick tip or a deep dive into the inner workings of iCloud, you’ll find what you need in this best-selling book by Apple expert Joe Kissell. Start by learning what iCloud can do, how it differs from other cloud services, and how best to set it up on Macs, iOS and iPadOS devices, Apple TVs, and Windows PCs.

Then, move on to finding out the key aspects—and hidden gotchas—of iCloud’s core features, including:

iCloud+, Apple’s paid membership tiers with extra features
Photo features: iCloud Photos, iCloud Photo Sharing, and iCloud Shared Photo Library

  • Family Sharing
  • iTunes Match and iCloud Music Library
  • iCloud Drive
  • Mail and Mail Drop
  • Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, and Notes
  • iCloud Keychain
  • The iCloud website
  • Location features: Find My Device, Find My Item, Find My Friends, and the Find My app
  • Two-factor authentication
  • Activation lock
  • Backing up and recovering data
  • Managing your privacy and security (including the use of Advanced Data Protection)
